Having immigrated to the United States at the age of five, I know firsthand the plight of the immigrant: from the obstacle he or she faces in immigrating to this country, to the mountainous bureaucracy faced in attempting to bring our loved ones to this land of opportunity, and to the sheer horror felt at the prospect of a life of eternal separation from one's family when facing deportation. This diversity of personal experience comes not just from my own life, but from the rest of my family. My grandfather participated in the "Bracero Program" of the 1950's and 1960's as an agricultural laborer from Mexico, and virtually all of my uncles and cousins are migrant laborers to the present day.

Coming from such background, I can truly say that I have lived the experience in the area of immigration law.
