A brief history on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was derived from the martial art of Judo, Helio Gracie was the man to modify Judo into what is now Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Hello Gracie as a young man was very frail and non athletic so much that his family would say he would pass out from climbing a flight of stairs. Helios brothers practiced the martial art of Judo and Helio would always want to join but being as fragile as he was they would never let him participate or practice with them.
Helio Gracie when then realize that most martial arts required things such as strength, speed, and explosiveness all attributes which he did not posse. He would then begin modifying Judo and replaced these attributes with Leverage, technique and timing in order to beat his opponent.
Helio would then go on to teach his brothers and others in Brazil his technique. He would then issue the Gracie challenges in Brazil in which he challenged to fight anyone from any other martial art discipline in a all out fight using kicks punches, elbows, knees and grappling. Martial arts experts from all over Brazil would come and prove to be ineffective against Helios fighting style. Eventually Brazilian Jiu Jitsu would spread to the United States which would then lead to the creation of the UFC ( the UFC was first made to help determine which marital art was the most dominant) The Gracie family would send one of the smallest members of their family Royce Gracie to represent Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Royce Gracie weighing 170 pounds would face men ranging from 220 and above and prove to be victorious he would eventually win the first ever UFC tournament championship.
