Music Lessons $30.00
There are a few things to consider once you've decided to seek help honing your guitar skills. One important consideration is what is feasible within your budget? As to that, my rates are as follows: $20 for a half hour lesson, $30 for an hour.
That's if you come to where I live in Santa Monica. Add $10 for my expenses and time if you'd like me to come to you. Another thing to consider is how a teacher's personality meshes with yours. Now, most instructors are nice people, in my experience, but what I'm referring to are the variety of ways individuals like to learn. For instance, some people are intimidated, or board, by books, while others find comfort in the methodical curriculum that comes with following an authors planned structure.
Some people want to dive head first into theory, while others just want to learn their favorite songs. I'm willing to follow your lead in this regard, but honestly the only sure way to find out what instructor is right for you is to call some of us and decide for yourself. Of course, neither of those things matters if your instructor doesn't have the right stuff to begin with, i.e., knowledge, playing ability, and the teaching experience necessary to convey key concepts in a way you can understand. As to that point, this add can only tell you so much about me, but here's a truncated list of things that might inspire you to give me a call so that we can have a more in-depth conversation:
Newest first: a Jazz song I wrote is currently on an album that's on the ballot for a Grammy award in 2016. (the album is called Blue Sky Thinkin', by the dazzlingly talented Anne McCue. Her rendition, along with 11 of her own compositions, is competing in the category of Best Americana Album. I'd like to with that award, so if you or anyone you know is a member of the Academy, I invite you to give it a listen)
Okay, onward and upward: I write and jam with people who are too busy to hang if you aren't up to snuff - people like composer and instrumentalist Jonathan Merrill(currently a singer in Danny Elfman's orchestra, last seen gigging at the Hollywood Bowl over the Halloween weekend)Drummer extraordinaire Matt Laug(Drummer on Alanis Morrisette's album Jagged Little Pill, later of Slash's Snake Pit)and Marcella Detroit(wrote the Eric Clapton hit Lay Down Sally) I've also written and performed music that's been on KROQ, syndicated KCRW, and in the theatrical release Carnosaur(a Roger Corman film)
A couple other things to consider: I read music and tab, can play by ear, including guitar music by Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Jimi Hendrix, BB King, etc. . . I'm well versed in music theory, and can help you with any of these things. I'm very patient and understanding, and I absolutely love what I do. So no need to be nervous, or intimidated around me(not that I can imagine why anyone would be, because I'm very nice. But nerves, as I've discovered, can be tough to control)
Anyhow, my name is Regis, give me a call if what you've read affects you the way I hope it has. And whatever musical path you choose, I wish you much happiness and good luck.
