Hello Parents, of Young Music Lovers,
I grew up playing Suzuki violin from age 6 and loved the community of music lovers to which it introduced me. Learning to play violin via the Suzuki method was an important gift and one for which I am continually thankful.
Dr. Suzuki called it the Mother Tongue approach because he recognized that children learn the language of their culture without much difficulty. It is the same method of listening and repeating, that language also emphasizes. For young bodies and minds it is a wonderful method that gives students a specialized skill while also developing them as good learners and curious students of life. My goal is not to create a virtuosic student, but rather, a well rounded student who grows to appreciate the arts as much as you or me.
What I have to offer?
Half hour lessons for beginners. I start out focusing on posture and comfort in the body, songs and games that help kids focus and enjoy the learning process. My technique is classical, but the music I enjoy playing is a mixture of Classical, Baroque, Romantic, Folk, Rock, Fiddle, and Ethnic. I am an active performer playing at local venues and enjoy playing with other musicians in ensembles. I am a firm believer in daily practice and weekly lessons, especially for beginners. I also speak Spanish and would be happy to conduct lessons in Spanish or speak with the parents in Spanish.
Please contact me with your questions, I currently have a few openings in my schedule and can teach at my home studio in Encino or travel to your home.
