My name is Rachel, and I have played and sung with groups from orchestras to rock bands, performing at Carnegie Hall, on national radio shows, and even tours of the East Coast, Ireland and Scotland. I most recently toured for 13+ years with the midwest Celtic group, Tullamore, playing 5-string fiddle and singing lead and backup.
I have a violin performance degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where I also studied piano, voice, and vocal pedagogy, and currently play violin with the Hampton Roads Philharmonic. I also had the honor of singing and fiddling with the award-winning Americana group, Brackish Water Jamboree from 2015-2018, appearing on national radio shows Out of the Box and the Blue Plate Special. Additionally, I used my musical training to teach myself how to play guitar, both classically and with contemporary styles, from Radiohead to Spanish-style guitar--I have been playing guitar since 1996.
As a music teacher for almost 20 years, I can teach you:
Violin--all skill levels
Viola--all skill levels
Guitar--beginner to intermediate (classical and folk/rock styles in staff, tab, or chords)
Singing (even "beginners"!)
Piano--beginner to intermediate
I teach many different styles, including fiddle (bluegrass, Celtic), as well as classical, by ear or by reading, and I am very familiar with Suzuki method materials, as well as other methodologies.
I teach out of Olive's Mud Puddle in downtown Fort Mill, and anywhere in the world via online lessons on Skype! Online lessons are great for days with bad weather, heavy traffic, or just whenever you don't feel like putting on pants.
