Apple Mint Julep

Designed at the Kentucky Derby, this example of the unique cocktails originates its name from Arabic and means “rosewater”. Its roots go back to Persia and then spread to Europe. Exactly there the main ingredient (rose water) was replaced with mint.

When you make the cocktail, ensure that you just bruise the mint leaves, not smash them. Only in this way you will receive bitter inner juice for the cocktail. It must be served ice cold.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. cinnamon and apple infused bourbon (can be replaced with rye whiskey, gin, Calvados, rum, applejack brandy)
  • 1/2 oz. rock candy syrup
  • 1/2 oz. fresh sweet and sour mix
  • Club soda to your taste
  • Fresh spearmint leaves
  • Several slices of a red delicious apple for decor

Instructions:

Take rock candy syrup and muddle it with mint leaves. Put sliced red apple at the bottom of the mixing glass, and add syrup with mint. Then top it with ice, bourbon infusion, club soda, and with a sweet & sour mix. Very gently rock back and forth so that the ingredients combine but not mix up completely. Drop the cocktail into a glass, add additional ice if needed, and decorate with a mint sprig and apple slices.
